This book is not what it purports to be. An actual encyclopedia of WW1 equipment would be 25% German, 16% French, 12% Russian, 12% English, 9% Austrian, 8% Italian, 6% American and the remainder Belgian, Bulgarian, Canadian, Serbian and Turkish. Instead, 70% of the book is about the equipment of ONE country, England.Worse, this book is full of old WW1 propaganda and hokey tales of English daring-do.
The information in the book was as expected. However, the binding of the book separated from the spine within one reading. The glue was below standard and makes the reading of the book impossible. This was a gift for my son, a WWI buff, and he was so disappointed by the physical book's lack of quality.
Well done with excellent illustrations. I was looking for reference to "Big Willie" which is a nickname for the rhombus shaped Mark I tanks that were developed by the British. "Little Willie was the only reference I could find in the book and it was an early prototype which preceded the tanks that were fielded in battle.
Good book , but this one is a mere fraction of the 80s enciclopedia war machine.This book is not complete in every chapter for space reasons , the original one of the 80s is far better than this short resume.

A well illustrated overview of the land, air and naval weapons developed and used during WW1. Also discusses some significant battles and the strategies that ensued from the development of these weapons.

Just what I was looking for. Covers all the tools of the conflict land, sea and air.. Excellent illustrations and great photos along with good explanations of many events. AMB
