This book contains many nice hikes, but it's organization makes it difficult to use. While I appreciate the author's attempt to group hikes into categories, the distinction between half-day hikes and short day hikes in the "trails at a glance chart" is unclear, with many half-day hikes taking only a couple hours. I'd like to see hiking times in this overview chart; distance and elevation change would also be nice. (These are included in the details, but that requires flipping through 100 hikes). Another useful addition would be a map at the front of each section, e.g. Central Mountains, showing more clearly the location of the hikes.Overall, I estimate that about 20 of the hikes are in my preferred 5-8 mile hiking range. About half are longer than eight miles.

While this is a book about hiking, the first thing that struck me as I read this book is the quality and quantity of the photographs. Every hike has at least one color photograph, and given that they are taken in Colorado, the scenery is spectacular. The book's pages are bright-white-glossy paper, so the colors really jump out at you. The pictures really give you a feel for what you are going to see on the hike and are thus worth many thousands of words.The verbal content is excellent in its own right. The 100 hikes cover the entire state from the prairie in the east to Colorado National Monument in the west. Distance and difficulty range from a 1 mile nature stroll to 31.5 miles along the steep, rugged Continental Divide. The trail descriptions are not long, but words are used wisely and you will know about the area's history and what can be found on the hike when you are through reading. The hikes described in this book really live up to the "classic" in the book's title, as each one visits a special area, usually for scenery or geology, but sometimes for history. There are some very difficult hikes in Colorado (consider the mountains and elevation), but the author gives precise information (example: trail gains 1000 feet in the next 0.75 mile) that should allow you to steer clear of hikes beyond your ability. I recently visited Colorado and took a couple of the hikes described in this book. When I got done, I wished I had time to hike more of them.As you can probably tell by now, I really enjoyed this guide. The book could be recommended for the pictures alone, but the hiking contents lives up to the title "100 classic hikes." Hikers planning to visit Colorado will find this guide a joy, but others might find it of interest as well. Enthusiastically recommended.

The color photographs alone make this a "must have" guidebook if you enjoy hiking in Colorado. Each hike is described in some detail with a ranking of how strenuous each trek is considered. The text is concise and to the point, but gives an adequate feel of each hike. There is at least one color photo for each journey and the photos are simply superb. Many such photos were the sole reason I decided to hike some of these mountains and I was never disappointed. You can literally spend hours just pouring over the incredible photos.The quality of the book is superb. The pages are heavy glossy paper and the paperback binding holds up after major 1,000+ mile car journeys I've made with the book thrown in the backseat. If you buy one guidebook about hiking in Colorado, make it this one. I highly recommend it for the description of each trail and the stupendous photographs.

I think it's a good way to look at ideas for hikes that aren't local. perhaps there are websites that have the same info, but I thought having an all in one resource to get started was worth the price. If anyone has a great trail website that is a good resource, would love to hear about it. Until then, I've got another 90 hikes to check off my list.

A perfect supplement to teaching about the middle ages! It has amazing pictures, amazing facts and is so much fun to read together! Our primary history curriculum is "Story of the World" and this is a perfect add-on for Volume 2. I don't usually buy extra books but this one is too fun not to get!

This is a really well made book with a lot of good info. Be warned it does start out slightly dark describing killing a raiding which I could have done without on page 1 of the book. I understand this is a lot of the reality of the Viking but I do think it could have been introduced a little more gently. However I am using this for a early elementary age child where this is probably targeted at an older audience.

We did a Viking unit at school and this book was a favorite. It is visually appealing and had some fun information. The blurbs of information is in small cuncnks so it is not too imitating for new readers. It also isn’t cluttered with too much. The pictures are bright and crisp and I will be looking into others in this series.

My son and I have just started hunting, so I thought it’d be a good idea to read a reference book on deer. This book pretty much answered all my questions and more. Some of the reproductive details might be a little much for a youngster, but the author spares no details from his observations. As such, he can’t be accused of not being thorough! Depending on the reader’s maturity, this is probably a high school age read.It’s organized in a cool way, in that it sort of follows a deer’s life through a calendar year. It obviously covers food and habits, and also includes some quirky observations from the author and some hunting strategies.Anyway, his is a well written book that is what it claims to be. I just finished it, and while I’ve got some other topics on my “read next” list, I look forward to coming back and reading this one again.

This is a very good "biology" book on whitetails, detailing their physiology and life history, in laymen's terms, absent serious scientific detail, which can be unnecessarily boring to the layman. When I bought it, I already had 30+ years experience hunting mule and blacktail deer, but limited experience hunting whitetails. So, I was looking for a book that highlighted the differences in the species' habits, particularly reproductive habits. The book fulfilled my expectations completely, I would highly recommend it to inexperienced and experienced hunters alike. In fact I bought personal copies for 2 of my hunting sons and one other hunting partner as soon as I finished reading it. Dr. Rue really knows his stuff!

This book was the best wildlife book I have read. I thought I knew things that simply were inaccurate. I recommend everyone that is serious about deer hunting or conservation read this book.

I learned more about whitetails from this book than I had in all my previous years, even though I grew up in the midwest. This book helps to remove some of the mystery that seems to surround deer behavior for most of us who don't spend our lives studying them.

I am a backyard photographer and I purchased this book to learn more about deer. I do not hunt. This book was everything I hoped for and more. It is written for the average Joe to understand and the photos are fantastic. I highly recommend this book

Crucial Questions SeriesI recently picked up all 14 of the Crucial Questions series for free due to Ligonier Ministries decision to offer them for free in the Kindle format. Apparently these titles have been around a while. This first title was first published in 1983. There have been 2 revisions since 1983, one in 1999 and one in 2009. This one of course is the 2009 version.I like that Ligonier is doing this, because these books are really gems. Essentially I could describe it as a long booklet. It's long enough to be meaty, but short enough to hold the reader's attention. A fast reader could get through these in about 2-3 hours.Who Is Jesus?This first title in the series is all about Jesus of course. This is an appropriate way to open the series in my opinion. Specifically, Sproul discusses: the real Jesus (how we know the real Jesus from false ones), the titles of Jesus in scripture, and the life of Jesus (what Jesus accomplished). This is very simple and straightforward.Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up?The title of chapter 1 of course plays off the famous game show "To Tell the Truth" (1956 - 2002). The idea of this chapter is how we can tell the real Jesus apart from false ones. From the beginning of Jesus life, we see miracle after miracle. His birth was supernatural. His mother, Mary, conceived Jesus with knowing a man. The virgin birth shows that Jesus was no ordinary child. We then have the fact that Jesus birth was attended by angels announcing to shepherds the joyous news. The baptism of Jesus demonstrated his special status as the Son of God. The temptation of Jesus in the wilderness showed his victory over temptation. It was tangible evidence that his sacrifice was accepted and that the sting of death was taken away. Finally, the ascension of Jesus is highlighted. the angels told the disciples to quit staring into the sky where Jesus had gone. They had work to do. The church age was just beginning. Jesus promise to be with them through the ministry of the Spirit would soon be demonstrated on the day of Pentecost.Book RecommendationI think this book, "Who is Jesus" presents us with an incredible summation of the significance of Jesus of Nazareth. We see his human side and his divine status. We see Jesus, not as philosophers do or those in the academy see him, but as he is presented to us in scripture. We see Jesus who asks each of us to consider who he really is and his claims on our lives. Who is Jesus? Read this book and get a clearer picture. I recommend this book for individuals and group study.

From the weight of the witness of the scriptures and the authors to the revelation of the nature and work of Jesus, the author elucidates skillfully the awesome significance of Jesus to the church, to the doctrines of the word, to the faith of individual believers and to the establishing and grounding of a sound theology in Christology. However I would have loved to see more discussions on the other titles given to Jesus etc. But the purpose of the book required a more precise and terse discussion on the person of Jesus Christ. Therefore I say God bless you to the author and his team who and God Almighty for such an encouraging, informative and insightful and scrioturally based piece of Literature.

This is an in-depth study of who Jesus is. It’s not a book for the new believer, because it digs deep into theological thought and philosophy. Yet, for all it’s depth, it only begins the study of who Christ is. I think that would be true for any book. However, I recommend this book for those who are ready to move from milk to meat in their Christian study.

The titanic influence of this man makes Him a chief target of the arrows of criticism and a prime object of revision according to the interpreter's prejudice. Thus, the portrait of the historical Jesus has been altered to suit the fancies of those seeking to line Him up on their side, to make of Him an ally in a host of militant causes, many of which are mutually exclusive. In the theologian's laboratory, Jesus is treated like a chameleon; He is forced to adapt to the backdrop painted by the theologian.

I learned things from this little volume that I had not known before, despite being a Christian for many years now. In most cases that's because I had not given much study to those topics. I do wish more Scripture references had been provided, but that's about the only major fault I find with this delightful book.

I began this series with this, the first in the Crucial Questions series by R. C. Sproul, as part of my daily studies. I determined to get back to basics and it doesn't get more basic than the question of who Jesus is. I enjoyed this small book. It has only three chapters but is deep in doctrine and rich in content. I look forward to the next book in this series.

No. Just no. The book starts with a beautiful color photo of food on the cover but, on the inside, the photos are poor quality black n white photos. The recipes are ok but the point calculations are impossible to believe because there are no serving sizes mentioned! One recipe was listed as 4 points but when I recreated it in the WW app, it came out to 48 points. It must be a serving for 10, but who would know. I can't forget to mention the typos and grammatical errors in this book. Although the author's name is Michael Smith, I get the sense that English isn't his first language. Don't waste your money.

The formulas don't show up work escalated and the fixings are effortlessly found in any supermarket. Also, it has proposals for substitutions inside a large number of the formulas and the quantity of focuses that involves. We have found a ton of good recipes in this book. So many different varieties of food, and because it is Weigh Watchers, it definitely is healthy. There is even a dessert section for all of those sweet tooth people out there.

This book is okay. I expected some more interesting recipes. As of now, I did not find any recipe that I care to make (and I love cooking.) Personally, I have just filed this book away.

I find Jay Michaelson's writing a pleasure to read. He's very clear and easy to understand. And he adds just enough personal details and autobiographical anecdotes to introduce himself to the reader as compassionate and sensitive. He comes across as a good man whose thoughts and arguments we ought to listen to. God vs. Gay? makes the sensible argument that Judeo-Christian morality with all its emphasis on compassion, love of neighbor, help for strangers should naturally be open to understanding and accepting LGBT people. What can it mean to "love your neighbor" if you discriminate against people for simply being who they truly are and telling the truth about that? Michaelson very thoroughly explains the various supposedly anti-gay verses in the Scriptures. He writes from a highly-educated Jewish context, and explains the stories in Genesis and rules in Leviticus better than I've ever come across. And because he is a wise and broad-thinking eclectic, he can write about the Christian Scriptures as well. And then go beyond the words of any particular tradition to the "real meaning" of all religious teaching. This is a VERY good book for preparing yourself for a Biblical argument with an anti-gay opponent in a debate or with a confused and upset parent who only wants the best for their child AND needs to understand what's in the Bible and religious teachings. This is one of the best books I have read on the subject of what the Bible says (and doesn't say) on the subject of homosexual behavior. Jay Michaelson has helped to confirm and clarify my beliefs that the conventional wisdom regarding homosexuality is based on mistranslated and/or misinterpreted snippets of scripture, taken out of context and quoted without regard to the historical and cultural background that underlie these ancient writings. How many Christians today know what pederasty was, and why it is important to our understanding of both Old and New Testament passages? How many understand what a very low status women held in ancient societies, so much so, that even a "righteous" man like Lot would not hesitate to suggest that a group of vicious men rape his own two daughters rather than harm the two angelic visitors he entertained in his home? If you will take another serious look at the 19th chapter of Genesis and the 19th chapter of Judges, you will understand why it is my conviction that the men of Sodom were not even gay. Thank you, Mr. Michaelson for an objectively and comprehensively written book.

Great, thought provoking book. Michaelson tackled this difficult subject with intelligence, humor, and grace. The issue of whether or not homosexuality is portrayed as a forbidden sin in the Bible and Torah or not is often every emotional. People on both sides of the argument become angry and hateful people when they argue their case. Thankfully, Michaelson has listened to the hearts and concerns of those with whom he disagrees with and tackles the most intimate, and difficult aspects of this dilemma throughly. I enjoyed the author's intelligent writing style, but I appreciated his love for those on both sides of the issue most of all. I would quickly recommend this book to anyone seeking to learn more about this subject. Thank you Jay Michaelson.

Basing his "theology" on love Michaelson summarizes much modern thought on gay history and spirituality but does it in a very unique blend of fact and overall Biblical meaning. Just as Jesus summarized the two greatest commandments for us, Michaelson puts gay acceptance and spirituality in the framework of Biblical love, justice and mercy. I highly recommend this book.

A Book I can endorse whole-heartedly. Author over delivers, if you need to design and can’t locate the tools, this is the book for you. If you do design work, if you are just starting, If you want to give design a try – This is definitely the book for you.What is really nice – the author includes a download link in the back for a PDF, this is a cinchier for me. I don’t need my cumbersome Kindle app every time I want access to these resources.The author has done a lot of the work for you and provided links to the tools,Includes a short video course to get you started with 19 Free Tools.

As a website & graphic designer and working as Marketing Head this book is an awesome resource to enable any novice to create images for online usage. With the use of the various tools mentioned in the book you most likely can cut back on the costs associated with hiring a designer or software licenses. You do not need to have any programming knowledge to use the tools. I really recommend this book for any beginner or even for the professionals out there in the field of graphic designing or internet marketing, social media marketers etc.

I was very impressed with all of the help sites the author covers in her book many of which are free or very low cost. I am going to follow her on Amazon and I suggest you do to if want make any creative product and you want to promote it. An excellent practical tool to help authors like myself (The Camino Ingles: 6 days (or less) to Santiago who are better at words than art! Thanks for sharing! I look forward to being able to add more and better pictures to my blogs and other social media! I keep getting asked - but what about the pictures! Now I hope to have an answer!

The book is short, with just a paragraph for each tool. But the author includes many links for instructional videos and texts. I will refer to this book often, I am sure.

The book is full of real and mostly free resources for almost everything you would need to start, promote and help you business grow. I am already using a lot of the suggestions and could not be happier !
