I do phone triage at a family practice clinic, and I am so grateful for this book. It is very in depth, providing reasoning behind each question to ask the patient. It provides conversational guidance and suggestions for speaking to patients and providing reassurance. Sometimes its harder for my words to come out smoothy, and I have days with less confidence about communicating with the public. Talking on the phone to stressed out people is hard enough, and this book makes it a little bit easier to navigate tough conversations.

Solid text for nursing triage phone centers.

Good resource for triaging and treating patients!

Physicians and nurses are thrilled with the ease of use and avise this book offers. The physicians are now comfortable with their nurses giving advise without first checking with them.

I would like to say thank you to the team of the author of this book. They have a done a great task to made this book for many people (include) me to learn premiere pro cs4. I never have any experience with premiere pro or video editing software before reading this book. But after I have completed it within 2 months, I really feel confident to do any video editing. The book has the following pro:- The author who wrote this book using a simple word to explain. Very easy to understand.- They use the color screen shot, which easy to capture the concept.- They have prepare a great practice file which is easy to learn after complete each lesson.- They have divide the complex topic into a small chapter in the book which is very easy to learn and to follow.If you are the beginner, this book is for you.For the cons of this book are:- The font are two small to read. I have a difficulty with my eyes to read the book in small font.- Each chapter in the book they have theory and practice. But in my opinion, the theory should be divide in one section and the second section is practice. So it is easy for people spend the time to read all the concept then start doing the practice just one time. Instead of read the concept, practice and read the concept again.- Some of the point in the book they said that it is beyond the scope of this book. If there is another book, this book should be tell read which book that they should read after they completed this book. But this book didn't tell any other book for further reading.In summary, this book is target to the people who is hurry to learn the video editing in adobe premiere pro because its writing style was target to the beginner level whose want to learn its fast.Even I have found some cons on this book, but I didn't down grade it to 4 starts. I still give it 5 star because I found this book teach you a lot to get master on the complex software...Good luck,Kanel

Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 CIBI have used Premiere infrequently over the years since version 5 and it was time for a refresher and to become acquainted with the new features. The last Premiere CIB book I purchased was 5.0 (1998).The book touches on a wide range of key features in a concise manner. If greater depth is needed, the book refers the reader to additional resources. I felt that the range of topics covered and the depth of treatment was good. This book is targeted at beginning and intermediate Premiere users and is not intended to make anyone an expert.I completed almost all of the exercises and felt that the book fulfilled its mission and was well worth the cost and the time/effort.I recommend that when copying the DVD to your hard drive, you place it in the recommended location. I have a separate Books & Training folder on my D: drive and copied the DVD there. Every time I opened a project for the first time the "Where is file" dialog opened. Also, this non-standard location caused some Dynamic Link exercises to produce unsatisfactory results and display the red Media Offline image.Re the complaints by some of the early reviewers regarding the files on the DVD, I recall only one switch setting (p. 262, noted below) which was incorrect. I received my copy March 9, 2010.While some may quibble whether all of the items below are errata, my frustration was sufficient to knock off one star for the book. When the Adobe software is brought into the mix, my frustration would cause me to knock off two stars.I have submitted my errata list to Adobe Press.=================ErrataThe AdobePress & Peachpit errata list contains only one item (this was already corrected in my printing [ISBN-13: 978-0-321-57385-8, 9 8 7 6 5 4 3]):Page 252: Step 2 should read "Open the Lesson 13-2 Working sequence."My errata list:p. 34, Retakes: "Add Shot Placeholder" -> "Add Take Placeholder"p. 104, step 2 (at top of page): The image should show the gap after writers2.avi, which was created by p. 102, step 8. I am considering the purchase a 1920x1080 camcorder but render times like this for DV make me question the wisdom of doing so.p. 365, step 3: "Adobe Premiere Pro offers nine export options..." -> "Adobe Premiere Pro offers at least five export options..."p. 369, step 6: "The export will be added to Adobe Media Encoder." -> "An Export Frame dialog box will open with the frame number appended to the file name. My system has been very reliable so I suspect that Dynamic Link is fragile and that going back and forth between Premiere/AfterEffects/Encore in the preceding lessons had pushed it too far. Rather than re-doing the entire Encore chapter from scratch I gave up with one page of the book to go.With the frequent errors toward the end of the book I got the impression that either a different writer worked on those chapters or the testers were getting weary or sections were extracted from a previous version of CIB.==================Premiere Pro CS4 bugs/inconveniences which you may encounter (version PP4.2.1 on Win7 x64):o Checkbox "Display only exact filename matches" in the "Where is the file" dialog box has no effect. Works correctly on XP x32.o The Effects Control panel does not honor the standard keyboard shortcut of entering time from the numeric keypad. If you want to go to a specific time in the Timeline, Program Monitor, Source Monitor, or Reference Monitor you can simply enter the time (no punctuation (e.g., ; or .) needed). But this does not work when the Effects Control panel has focus. (Note that if one or more clips are selected when using this technique, the clips are moved so that the in point of the first clip aligns with the entered time.)o Activating the Effects panel does not place the cursor in the search field. This is probably a minor issue if you select the Effects panel with the mouse, but it is more of an inconvenience if you got there via Shift+7.o The image on External Devices (Program Monitor > Playback Settings) is not updated real time while manipulating an effect in Effect Controls while the Program Monitor > Display Mode is set to one or more of the Vectorscope/waveform monitors. The work around is to leave the Program Monitor set to Composite Video and set the Reference Monitor (Window > Reference Monitor) to display the Vectorscope/waveform monitors.o Applying the Reverb effect to a 5.1 submix only outputs to the Front Left and Front Right channels, that is, only the two leftmost VU columns in the mixer display for the Master bus display activity. (I tried a variation on Lesson 14-5: add a 5.1 submix, direct Audio 6 and Audio 7 to that new submix, and add the Reverb effect. With Reverb bypassed everything is fine; with Reverb enabled, there is no output. Maybe Premiere is using the stereo version of Reverb rather than the 5.1 version.).

Currently studying for my EP-C and this book has a good amount of content that is addressed on the test (I am retaking it).On the publisher's website, they state the book includes "student and instructor resources, including fully searchable online text, videos, a test generator, PowerPoint presentations, and an image bank". This is very misleading as only 21 videos pertaining to patient assessment are available to students. An online text is not even included. They display the instructor resources for you, but you cannot click them, which is a little frustrating.Therefore:1. Buy a used/rental copy and save some money, as you are not gaining much2. Supplement this purchase with the ACSM Certification Review text since the online resources are lackingI emailed the publisher and told them that they should amend their website listing. I tried asking for instructor access, and they said that would undermine classroom integrity (which makes sense when it comes to the test generator).I will update this review after my exam.

I am very disappointed in this purchase. I bought this book because the description left me under the impression that it came with both the textbook and an access code for ThePoint and PrepU. When I received the book, it did come with an access code, but after speaking directly with a representative from ThePoint, apparently the access code only grants me access to the online version of the book, NOT PrepU. Why I would need access to the online book when I have a hard copy is beyond me... Bottom line, DO NOT buy this textbook if you need access to PrepU...

Getting ready to take my EP-C certification exam and it has been an excellent resource for studying. Glad I picked it up!!

Louis L’Amour was born Louis Dearborn LaMoore in Jamestown, North Dakota, in 1908. He published his first work at the age of eighteen and went on to write scores of adventure and Western stories, becoming one of the most popular writers of all time. He died in 1988 at his home in Los Angeles.

I enjoy escaping to the old west with a good L'Amour story, and these do not disappoint.

A fine fast read where you as the hero feel the grit in your teeth, smell the gunsmoke, feel the weight of carrying a wounded comerade, feel the rich blush of new love, all in the setting of great high desert/mountain country, lush grassy meadows, glossy cattle fattening under the sun and enriching the earth with with fresh feed grass/hay. Well watered pastures and feedlots are well defined by rocky outcroppings, arroyos, ridges sculpted by nature to make every landhold different and special. Add enough good people who work hard and relentlessly to reap the wealth thet the land and herds with yield and enough bad guys who want to take advantage of the short cuts of thievery, murder, double dealing, to become wealthy through someone else's investment in the virtues of an honest life. Then there is the fine line between being "good" and "bad" and how hard that is to figure out when your life is always on the line.

Yes, there will always be oddities with the writing: character starts across street with rifle in hand, but has no rifle when he gets to other side. Forget the niceties, that is NOT why one reads a Louis L'Amour! This is authentic flavor and spice of the old west, peopled by characters and personalities too big for small print. It is no wonder his stories are often put on the big screen - you cannot fake the bigger than life heroes and humbler than dirt egos of the main characters juxtaposed by the wicked villains and grasping evil-doers who always get their comeuppance when the hero hits the scene! They save the day and often the girl! What's not to love!

This book of great western short stories reminded me just how much I love Louis L'Amour as an author. Once I downloaded it onto my Kindle and began reading, I realized that I had read these stories years ago. They were even better this second time around. The same visuals I remember came back to life from my first reading and I smiled all the way through every story.. again! If you want to escape to the old west, this is an easy way to do it.

I never really liked short stories, but Louis L'Amour's tales are always winners, short or full length. His masterful descriptions of people and land are fascinating. I still admire the strong sense of right and wrong that is captured in his books. There's too little of that now.

This is a series of short story western's. The stories are all about different characters. The author does a good job getting the reader into the characters so quickly that by the end of the story you feel you know the lead character well. I will be looking for more stories by this author.

These six tales are well worth reading. I especially enjoyed the story about Cat Morgan- a man who captures mountain lions. Every story has L'Amour's signature Western style, with tough men facing big odds in the name of justice. These very much resemble the author's full-sized novels and compliment a collection very well. Also, the introduction goes into detail about L'Amour's career as a short story writer in the early days before he became world famous.

Fine western stories. Great description causes exciting climax-endings. I completed the stories in two days. This book is really difficult to put down until you have finished the last page.

I am a general reader and a general lover of the visual arts, who often finds contemporary conceptual art difficult to keep up with. I turn to books like Lives of the Artists in an attempt to keep current and for interesting conversation. Lives of the Artists, with its emphasis on the artists' lives rather than art genres and trends makes it more interesting conversation than edification, but that's okay.Tomkins, art critic for The New Yorker, had years of articles from which to choose, and he chose biography as his organizing theme, a la Giorgio Vasari, of the movers and shakers in the contemporary international art world. His selection skews to the most controversial, provocative and/or innovative: Jasper Johns, Maurizio Cattelan, Cindy Sherman, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, James Turrell, Julian Schnabel, John Currin, Richard Serra and Matthew Barney. Tomkins does a good job of introducing the artist in a current scene, before cutting to the back story to scribe the arc of career, inspiration and critical reaction. This mostly works, though the first profile in the collection, of Damien Hirst, had the ring of a VH1 "Behind the Music" rock star story. Tomkins provides updates on each career, current as of 2008 when this book was prepared. Alas, there are no illustrations, no images of the subjects' work or of them.One thing I could not help but notice about the collection: though the author notes in his preface that there are thousands of working artists living and producing in New York City alone, and he had years of his own profiles to select from, he chose a line-up that is starkly white, and with the exception of Cindy Sherman, male. Women mostly appear as bit players in these stories, as girlfriends, wives, muses, studio assistants and, in a couple of instances, "porno" subjects. Is this representative of the world of art right now? It feels more like the night before the women's and civil rights movements injected a more inclusive diversity into our cultural reflection.

Capsule reviews of the lives and works ten important artists. No pics, which a critic quoted on the back cover claims to be an advantage. Yeah, yeah -- none of those distracting images! With the internet that's not a big disadvantage, but it's certainly more distracting to get up and google than to turn the page.Written in a breezy, well-informed style which I generally like -- I've read a number of Tomkins' books -- but several non sequiturs slipped by his editor. I occasionally got the feeling that the text had been dictated, with minimal revisions. But lots of good facts and impressions, from an author who has spent, in some cases, decades getting to know his subjects.

I love this writer. He has a bit of everything, intelligent, but not pretentious. Insightful and just enough juice. He has a sense of the times and ART. I LOVED Living Well is the Best Revenge, How can you not love that Title. I use it all the time to get through difficult times.This is a tremendous read, RICH and extremely resourceful. The subjects are all intelligent, successful human beings, a great study and the work is brilliantly portrayed, VIVID. Tomkins is an extremely visual writer. Brilliant.This is also an important piece of work for the Arts. Its a testament to the times of the artwork and the lives of the artists. Great Work.

I love this book. A great look at wildly different artists who have made their mark in Western culture and, thanks to Calvin Tomkins, in me. Interesting, intimate, personal but never fawning or self-conscious.One really big complaint though...not the writing but eBook technology: why is "performance" always spelled "per for mance?" Many other words were consistently mangled. Several sections were marred by this kind sloppy formatting that I seriously doubt was seen in the "analog" version. I think I deserve my money back. I'm sure if I submitted a manuscript with these kind of errors to Amazon, I'd be laughed out of a contract. Fix it!

Great profiles of contemporary artists by the New York writer Calvin Tompkins. By combining biography, personal interviews and insights into the craft of each artist, Tompkins leaves the reader feeling as if she had been there as well. Like their work or not, Tompkins helps you to understand it.

Tompkins gets to know the artists, he visits their homes and studios, he parties with them and meets their significant others. He is not judgemental. He doesnt offer his opinions and for the duration of his essays I felt as if I had a window into the thought process and lives of the artists. This book is well worth reading if one is interested in art, especially contemporary art, and want to know about the artists who create it. It is readable, well written and fun.

Something of a back stage view of many of the hero's of this days art and no doubt the sight to today given to future generations. Excellent.

Steve Lynch grew up in the shadow of the Studebaker automobile factory in South Bend, Indiana, and attended Indiana University. Lynch spent 13 years in the world of Honda, rising from a Honda dealership showroom floor to the executive offices of American Honda Motor Company, where he was in charge of regional marketing. Lynch also worked for Honda's advertising agency. He lives in Dallas, Texas.

The author's accounting of the events were fascinating, especially due to how unfamiliar I was with the state of American Honda throughout the 80s. I would quickly recommend to any car enthusiast.My only gripes are that the author had a habit of being a bit repetitious, and had a long cast of those involved, sometimes adding more anecdotes are irrelevant information than was strictly necessary, but was overall appreciated.

I grew up in the car business during this time and only heard about this. This book brought me into the story and gave me a good understanding of some of the way these (still dealers) got their start in the business. And not in a good way.

I loved the book though it made me angry. I and sure that the Honda Corporation isn't as corrupt as the individuals in this book were, and hopefully they (Honda) have established some morals as to how their executives conduct themselves. But, the damage has been done! This book made me angry at how greed runs so rampant in the auto industry. Angry how such a ruthless, vile human being could be held in so high regard by a sporting body. This book has made me decide to never look at a Honda automobile ever again, and I did own one. And every time I watch a NASCAR race and a Hendrick car is leading, I will always question the legality of that car! Thank you to Steve Lynch for writing a powerful book about how power and money can be so corruptive! I highly recommend this book for anyone who is a fan of Honda cars, and for anyone who is a fan of any driver who works for Rick Hendrick. It will open your eyes!

This apparently out-of-print book exposes a side of Honda USA that is shockingly different from the image Honda has cultivated world-wide. It reads like a novel about the Mob, but is real stuff about the "good old boys" at the USA arm of Honda. Bribes, shakedowns, intrigue, threats, suicides all part of how the executives and managers in the automobile distribution chain made illegal millions extorted from dealers. After reading this book, I'll never look at an Accord with the warm feelings and regard I once had toward this flagship model -- nor the company behind it.

Steve Lynch has a passion for Honda automobiles. Such passion helps animate and propel his eyewitness account of the long-running bribery that occurred within Honda Motor Company's American branch.Lynch's love of Honda shows in his opening account of the dismal state of the American automobile scene circa 1981. There is a certain glee with which Lynch contrasts the high quality of Honda's product with the lesser quality of American marques. Such contrasts in quality proved important, as Honda was able to sell cars without extensive marketing campaigns.But as Honda became more successful, bribery and graft within the American division grew higher and more audacious. The prince of payola at American Honda was John "Jack" Billmyer, who "wallowed in the kickbacks of dealers" throughout the country. Following in Billmyer's footsteps was his successor as chief of national sales, Stanley James Cardiges, nicknamed Jim Car-Jesus, The God of Honda automobiles.One of the biggest dealer-influence-peddlers who played ball with Billmyer and Cardiges was NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick. Hendrick and Billmyer went back to Rick's youth as a hot rodder in North Carolina, and Billmyer was instrumental in getting Hendrick going in car sales. Five stars-- this book entertains as well as educates even if the education is mostly on a superflous level.While on bed rest with one of my pregnancies, one of my girlfriends loaned me this. Like Kirkus Reviews indicates, it is full of triavialities and stupid tidbits. But what fun they are to read! No, I couldn't call up my girlfriends and gossip about these things-- not many 25 year olds know a lot about Gloria Swanson or have heard about the movers and shakers of two generations ago. It was fascinating to read of someone's life while in the midst of the people who were defining her era (including Fleur Cowles, herself.) Her contemporaries were true stars, people whose influence is still looked to by the flash-in-a-pan celebrities of today. She dined with Royalty when they were still powerful and knew people who had affairs that would make Bubba blush, but had enough class to be discreet about them.From someone who lives on "the other side" I cannot help but wish I had some of this woman's problems and scrapes, not to mention her panache at dealing with my own! Martha Stewart, on gracious living, doesn't hold a candle up to Fleur Cowles and for that matter-- I don't think that anyone does or ever will!
