Everything you need to know about how Terry creates his amazing watercolour and acrylic paintings under one cover. I like the spiral bound pages. I also have the DVD version and they are excellent value for both the beginner and the advanced water media artist. I have also found Terry's brushes to do the job they were intended for. Often I'm skeptical about artists who try to flog their brands, but these really work. Just choose the ones that suit best your style and purposes. I use mine for both watercolour and acrylic painting.
Got boring real fast.
Great little book with great big tips and appropriate demo's! Worth the money for any artist needing quick pointers for instruction.
Excellent reference book for a beginner. It is very straight forward. This is probably one of the most practical painting reference book. I have ever come across.

My situation:I have some experience with painting in acrylic, but without any training and no one to help me, it's been hard to understand how some other painters are able to do the things they do. Normally I have to work really hard and do things in a very backwards way. I knew there were easier ways to do the things I wanted to achieve, but I couldn't figure it out. I started to think that maybe I was just not good at painting, even though I've had things turn out fairly well, only after a lot of effort and time. I don't have a lot of money so most of the books I've used were gifts and they really didn't present much practical information. Other books I looked at in the library were too verbose and I couldn't reference them as quickly as I wished.Why I like this book:As soon as I flipped through this book I found the answer to about 5 things I'd been struggling with and the solutions were so simple! The author of this book doesn't go on and on. He just presents the information in an easily digestible format.It is very straight forward and I love it for that. There is something to learn on every page. This is probably one of the most practical painting references I have ever come across.I've been wanting to learn more about brush strokes, brushes, mixing water into my paints, adding texture, and painting foliage and things you'd find in your environment like walls, environmental textures, etc. Usually I like to paint and draw people and characters, so this book is exactly what I needed to continue to develop my painting skills and move on to add more life to my paintings. I want to be able to make science fiction paintings with landscapes and urban environments. While this book has more traditional images, the information is still solid, helpful, and applicable. I would love to be able to paint a myriad of landscapes and with a book like this I think I will be well on my way towards that goal!It isn't really a step by step book that tells you how to paint an entire image. It is just page after page of various techniques! There is also information about tools and their uses etc. There are many images of different textures and things like plaster brick and stone walls... but they aren't just placed there without any context. This book helps you to build a good solid foundation by presenting you with images and tips and then it goes on and gives you examples of things you can do with that information, and presents some more tips.This is a hardcover book, but inside it also has a spiral binding. It is made with thought and care. The spiral binding is nice, sturdy, and is installed well. The book lays flat open and the spiral binding is unobtrusive. The book isn't too large or too small. I think it is around 8 inches tall and 11 inches wide when its opened up. So this book probably isn't going to crowd your workspace if you want to look at it while you paint.This is one of the most thoughtful reference books I have ever seen. I really have a lot of respect and appreciation for this book.
