This title couldn't be more perfectly fulfilled than by Esposito's text. Just what you would think; it gives the big picture for architecting while being detailed enough to teach.I read this after reading Calderon and Rumerman's Advanced ASP.NET AJAX controls, and wow does the extra quality in this text really show through when looking at two titles in this same area of study.This text really clarifies. It does a great job of separating ASMX from WCF, while still showing the similarities. It does a great job at reviewing JavaScript just as needed to launch into the MS AJAX Library, and it flows nicely in a great personal tone without being unprofessional in the writing.Definitely the first book to grab if you are interested in how AJAX has come to be a force in the world of the web (even, perhaps, if you are not specifically ASP.NET-centric), and more importantly, what to do about that force.It is one of those books where you think, "Without this information/knowledge I was something of a fool and just didn't know it Good thing I was at least smart enough to get and read it!"I may update this posting when I have completed the text, but I have read in it significantly, and it just keeps getting better.

Dino is a well respected author and developer. I have read at least five of his books. They range from old school ADO.NET to architecting web applications for the enterprise (highly recommend that read). This book is well written and organized. The content is heavy on the front end as the title suggests. You will explore the kludgy innards of JavaScript. jQuery and many Ajax approaches are also considered. In addition, Dino puts his own personal spin on patterns and processes.The book starts very well with a background in the Ajax surge. It then jumps into the client side, patterns, binding to the client and ends with RIA's. Overall this is solid and I recommend the read if not quick skimming after the fifth chapter.However, .NET 4.0 is right around the corner. The client side bindings, more jQuery integration and updated Microsoft Ajax JavaScript libraries will change a lot of how this book approaches Ajax. Therefore, its an interim book for those not looking to move to 4.0 and live in at least the 3.5 world for the foreseeable future.It delves into Silverlight a bit and. But has no mention of the ground swell of popularity that is ASP.NET MVC and its fairly elegant Ajax approach. One of the highlights is Dino's insight into the pros and cons of partial rendering vs. full scale asynchronous approaches. I have been on an enterprise application where we had to implement the former. He nailed the reasons why.Read this book if you want a good background in current technologies that are changing at the speed of light. It won't be a gold source for later pick up and review though.

If you have nothing to do, still don't read this book. Really doesn't tell you anything about how to DO AJAX, just another copy paste from other materials into this book. You could learn more from the internet, and your neighbor then reading this book.

I am a Senior .NET Developer for SSN and I think this book is total ****! I am sorry, some ideas from it are cool, but I buy books to see useful examples of all the why's and how to's, and if you are like me, you will find this book useless. I read the book in a weekend and I didn't learn anything worthwhile.

'Microsoft ASP.NET and AJAX: Architecting Web Applications' is a good book for the current .NET AJAX developer looking to get their feet wet and ready to swim. The content is written well, and the author knows his stuff, but whoever made the decision to go with such a blah design swung and missed on this one. AJAX has been one of the 'hot' terms in computers for a half decade now, and the market has lots of material on the subject. People hear 'AJAX' and not only do they expect to get the steak, they want some sizzle to go along with it. This book provides no sizzle. Lack of color and design sex appeal hurt the overall product. Many people will say "who cares what it looks like" but for this type of subject matter, I don't want the layout that comes with an Assembly or C book, I want that web design PIZAZZ and it's just not there.Pick this up if you are an AJAX developer who is looking to grow your skillset. If you are just a casual developer looking for AJAX references in the store, no doubt you might walk right by this title. Good enough, but it could be better.**** RECOMMENDED

If you are looking for a AJAX how-to book then this is not the book for you. You have to go through a lot of text to find the development material. Its all theory. Not a single program in its entirety but small functions in lot of text. This book detail about the history, need and architecture. Not for people looking for code samples.

Most of the Ajax and JavaScript books focus on implementation and that's a good thing. However those books do not describe how Ajax fits within an architecture of an application. This books captures it succinctly. I also recommend author's other book "Microsoft .NET: Architecting Applications for the Enterprise"

My 6 year old daughter visited the Alamo with her grandparents and came home asking ALOT of questions to which I didn't have answers....so we snagged this book!It was great, I actually learned a ton as an adult. There are risqué topics...many of Texas' founding fathers were alcoholics, slave owners, or had affairs on their wives. They didn't harp on these topics but the book did not shy away from the truth about each person. I LOVED that. I think its really great for my kiddo to learn now that no one is perfect, even if they are heroes.I immediately bought another book in this series. It has been rare that my girl has expressed interest in non-fictional reading and she is pretty excited to pick up another one. History for the win!!!!

I have bought this for my second grader number one to have material for her to read. Second to try to foster a interest in History. There are several books in this series on various historical events and figures. This one deals with not just the battle of the alamo but also the war for Texas independence from mexico. It deals with a lot of the underlying conflict that led to the revolution, and the people that shaped the whole texas independence struggle. My daughter has loved reading it and look forward to getting through other books in this series with her.

This book was okay. My son liked the d-day book much better. This was a little confusing and didn't flow as well. It certainly didn't hold my sons attention like some of the others as the story was slow and wasn't written to be very suspenseful.

I use many of books in this series for my adult reader students...they cover topics of interest to their age groups, yet help younger students discover the past

My 10 year old son love the Who Was Series. Reading about history on a level perfect for young adults. Highly recommended,

I recommend this series for kids. My daughter has almost every one of the books in this series and she is always reading them, even when she should be sleeping! She loved these books and can't put them down. Great info, easy to read and understand.

When I travel, I always bring along the LONELY PLANET and EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDE books. The LONELY PLANET books usually have more information on all aspects of travel while the EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDES are full of pictures of the sites of a country so you can plan your trip.This was the first time I found myself using the EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDE more than the LONELY PLANET book for planning my days in Cyprus. Although Cyprus is a small country, bus service can be limited to out of the way places. I could look at the EYEWITNESS GUIDE and get a clear idea if the site was worth the effort to visit. It was amazingly helpful and I will keep this book as a souvenir of the trip because of the wonderful color pictures.

Since I had no idea of what to expect from Famagusta in North Cyprus, I bought this travel guide. It was somehow helpful with some general information before heading out to the Island. Nevertheless, it became worthless when I got to the Island. The guide is outdated, the maps and the Greek/Turkish phrase book are too small to read, the places to visit are only atractive to historians and the "survival guide" doesn't realy have practical information. Luckly, I was given a real North Cyprus tourist guide as well as a big map at the hotel which both had terrific and current information. If you want to get to know a little bit more about North Cyprus, go to [...] and see what's is going on. One more thing--things in North Cyrpus are very unexpensive and people are extremely friendly. Have a nice trip!

The guide does help plan a trip but is too general, do not give enough information on hikes, nature trails, starting point of trails which is my maim interest. Also information about the cities is mainly about museums and churches not enough about markets, times when the markets are open; special quarters to city hike and not enough information about good night life. The first pages have suggested trip plans which were useful to me.

I own about 40 DK Eyewitness Travel Guides and usually take one on my travels to complement a more thoroughly written guidebook like Rough Guide or Lonely Planet. The photos are always excellent, providing a fine visual overview of places. DK Cyprus, though, was perhaps the least useful DK Travel Guide that I have ever used. The descriptions of places were drier than Cyprus' summer weather, and the photos added little to what was in the more compact, less expensive DK Top 10 Cyprus book. Carrying 4 guidebooks (DK, DK Top 10, Lonely Planet, and Rough Guide) for our travels throughout all regions of the island, I soon realized that I could have been perfectly happy if I had only carried Rough Guide and DK Top 10.

i will be traveling to Cyprus this winter and am looking forward to it. Will be doing more exploring than swimming at that time, but I feel that having read this book, I am will be well prepared. Great pictures always!

The book was the only one we carried with us as we toured both the Republic of Cyprus (South) and the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus. We used the internet to confirm times in the South and found some of the times for the North that way. In the south we used GPS but it doesn't yet exist for the north. This book had helpful informaion that with the maps provided by the TRNC tourism information booths, made it relatively easy to find our way around--remember the days before GPS and internet. In planning the trip I also used a couple of other tour books that I borrowed from the library.

Nice but a little bit to short. Gives good first impression of the place.

photos and layout and content make for good quick guide. we toured with cyprus natives and besides a few hole-in-the-wall restaurants, did not venture beyond what this guide would have suggested anyhow.

His phrasing is incredibly digestibleIf you're interested in renovating your world with more character, complete thoughts, and starting from the base, he has words of wisdom for beginners and advanced designers alike! I have been devouring this book front to back more than once already!It doubles as an art book since the quality of the prints is absolutely stunning! Seeing the pencils, Inks, and then the finals is a real delight that helps break down the process-- but the thought behind why specific designs and story-telling are where Mark really shines! There's so much story-telling in every piece! Even just the drawings of his trees and rocks have so much movement and energy you'll be excited to get to work yourself!I love it, and I'm certain that you will love it too!

You can tell they tried. Just screams look at us, we're fun and zanny and off the wall cute!!!! Then it falls so short of the mark. Jokes bomb, adventure uninvolving with characters who have no character. Most of the time the team just stands together and make snarky comments about the events going on around them. Like the Mystery Science Theater crew do when watching a movie. But that's not the Avengers. Not horrible just not worth it.

My new favorite super team book.

I think the title is pretty self-explanatory, but essentially this is a phenomenal series. I was sold the moment I learned Kelly Thompson was going to be writing the two Hawkeyes again, to say nothing of the rest of the cast which includes a number of fantastic characters such as America Chavez, Gwenpool, and Quentin Quire. From the first issue, this quickly became one of my new favorites with Thompson's always fantastic writing and Caselli and Di Nicuolo's great art. This series is just pure fun, manages to capture all of the characters personalities perfectly, and starts with an attack by Sharks with legs.

While this isn't the cast I would have chosen to lead a relaunch (No USAgent? No Living Lightning?), Kelly Thompson and Stefano Caselli tell a fun story with reverence to the past, an eye to the future, and plenty of humor. These are the Wackos you remember... but they are memorable just the same! Thompson and Caselli make characters like America Chavez shine!

Yeah, this book is weird. It’s not your typical superhero book. It has some characters that a lot of readers might not be familiar with. It does not deliver the same experience you might expect from a book with “avengers” on the cover. THESE ARE ALL THE REASONS YOU SHOULD LOVE THIS BOOK.Kelly Thompson writes with so much heart. She loves these characters. It’s so evident from reading just a few pages. Any time she writes Kate Bishop, it’s an automatic buy for me.Buy this book. Buy 2 and give one to a friend who might be sick of the usual Capes and Cowls brand of comics. This book is funny and exciting and it deserves to be recognized.

This story is like the Avengers but also not like the Avengers, it has a lighthearted tone and really showcases the importance of friendship and extended family in these superhero stories. Really easy to get an old school Fantastic Four vibe from it, Kate Bishop really steals the show here as does writer Kelly Thompson. If I had one knock for the series I would say I wish they were able to acquire more well known characters and villains but for what they have they worked wonders with!

I’ve been making mine marvel for over 25 years and this book easily makes it into my top 10. It’s the perfect blend of fun and feels and endeared me to characters that I hadn’t previously followed. I originally picked it up for the art, which IS GORGEOUS. The writing is pithy, fast-paced, and funny. Kelly Thompson (writer), Stephano Caselli (artist), Trionna Farrell (color artist), and this motley crew of marvel characters make a perfect cocktail for madcap mayhem. Buy it if you want to laugh.

West coast avengers is such a breath of fresh air for me in comics right now. It such a interesting team dynamic book with people you wouldn’t expect and it works. The art by Caselli and coloring by Farrell really brings that sunny L.A. vibe the book radiates all together.
