Great book. Fast delivery.

I didn't study the material yet, but briefly scanned through the book.The organization is very good.It covers metric space, Banach and Hilbert Space, Fourier Transform, and Wavelet analysis.Note that it have two entire chapters on L^p and L^2 spaces to show engineering applications.The two chapters are very useful for engineers.However, the book is not self-contained.Around 1/3 of the proofs are left to reader as "exercise".This is the main reason that I rate this book 3 stars.It has potential to become a standard textbook.However, many proofs are incomplete.It is a good book, but NOT for self-study.

I came upon this book through a Google search related to linear operators on normed vector spaces while working through Rudin's Real and Complex Analysis for a university course. For the same reason that the previous reviewer gave the book only three stars I am giving 5. It is an excellent reference for getting a solid "high level" view of introductory Banach and Hilbert spaces and Fourier series.Working from both Real and Complex Analysis and Principles of Mathematical Analysis it is very easy to fall into a "forest for the trees" type of situation and get easily lost in Rudin's very terse yet very dense proofs. Although as a student of mathematics it is absolutely necessary to tackle analysis at the depth and rigor required of Rudin it is also very, very helpful to gain an broader yet more explicit understanding of the subject (along with its underlying motivation) which this books does excellently!Along with Linear Algebra Done Right and Apostol's Mathematical Analysis, this book has become a go-to reference for me! Can't recommend it enough!

I love Peanuts and this day-to-day calendar is so cute. I always give this as a Christmas gift to my mother. She will save each calendar page for me so I can read the adventures of the Peanuts gang. I also recycle each page by using it as scratch paper.

This calendar has become an annual tradition for me. As always, it is in full color with a daily comic as well as some sort of mentally stimulating content on the back of the page (brainteasers, Sudoku, this day in history, letter searches, trivia, etc... lots of goodies). As Page-A-Day type calendars go, this one is consistently high quality with a sturdy stand that locks properly, good quality paper that tears cleanly, and good selection of the featured Peanuts comic strips... in all the years I've been buying these, I can't recall ever seeing a repeated strip. If you love good ol' Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus and Lucy, and the rest of the gang, this calendar belongs on your desk!

I haven't gotten to read the 2019 calendar yet but I have had fun reading the Peanuts calendar for the past 3 years.

My husband likes his 2018 one so much that I went ahead and got the one for 2019.

These are just the right size for a desk. These are expected every year for Christmas. Must have Peanuts, and of course have to have another of Garfield. Very nice.

I have been purchasing this particular series of calendars for friends and for myself, for several years now. The wit and wisdom of Charlie Brown and friends helps to start off the day in a wonderful way.

I get one of these every year for my office waiting room, and they never disappoint. The poignancy of his observations on human behavior and interactions remains touching and amusing, and everyone loves them.

In 2018, each page had a cartoon and some art at the bottom, ex picture of snoopy or some other character. In 2019 you get the cartoon and a big colored circle, no other art on the page.

This is an excellent, well researched book about the men who invented Hollywood and the movies according to their own ideas about what the American Dream should be and what their ideal of America might look like. If you think MGM musicals are realistic, blame Mr. Mayer. But the book's not only about the glory days of Hollywood. The Red Scare, HUAC, and the black list--and how the studies acquiesced and then some of them fought back is also covered. If you like movies and want some real history about them and the studios that made them, this is the book to read.

This book recounts the stories of the individuals who created the American motion picture industry and Hollywood. They were the producers, writers, lawyers and agents who dominated the American film industry until shortly after WW II. These men were mostly displaced eastern Europeon Jews who struggled to attain success in their adopted country. The author relates the attempts to assimilate and, in many cases, reject the Jewishness that defined them. The cast of characters included the fatherly but domineering L. B. Mayer, the crude and womanizing Harry Cohn and assorted husbands, fathers, thugs, party-givers, gamblers and racehorse owners who nevertheless created MGM, Columbia, Universal and Warner Bros. The author describes the personal lives, lifestyles and business success and failures with unerring prose that engrosses the reader in these stories. I found particularly interesting the styles and themes that distinguished each of these movie moguls and their respective motion picture institutions from each other. Wonderful photographs augment the narrative.

Despite perplexing use of the hyphen and mistakes confusing the words gentile and genteel I loved this book. The early tales of the studios founders is a great read. But the book really comes into its own when the nasty politics begin to take a toll on the Studios. While many of the film executives were almost deaf to Hitler and his murder of Jews, the national swing to the right and paranoid fear of communists came close to destroying the studios. The studio heads cooperated with the HUAC and betrayed the writers and directors genius and creativity was responsible for the decades of profit for studio bosses. The studio heads had the hubris to pretend that they were the creative force in what a become a reflection of American culture and a major economic contributor to American prosperity. But their refusal to unionize and their refusal to accommodate the Screen Writers Guild in many ways contributed to the downfall of their empire.

Gabler is a uniquely erudite cultural critic. This is the third book I have read by him and I am deeply impressed with the unusual breadth of his coverage. In this case, he writes about the founding fathers of Hollywood, the dictatorial dreamers and shapers of its golden age (to the late 1940s}. In his telling, they are all Eastern European Jews, striving to become part of the American dream and at the same time providing many of the images that entered the American psyche. They all started with the penny arcades at the beginning of the century, and built empires in which they exercised total control of content and creation.This book is less about the economics of the studio system - cartels that manufactured films on lots, virtually owned the "talent" via long-term contracts, dominated the distribution of their films, and controlled many of the theatres that played them - than about the culture and ethos they were trying to create in their dictatorial domains. The era passed with the Supreme Court trust-busting ruling, political attacks during the McCarthy era, and the rise of independent talent in actors, producers, and writer-directors.As Gabler sees it, these founders were fairly secular Jews, who wanted to fit into the American ideal of pseudo-aristocratic entrepreneurs (from poverty). This was the source of their maudlin, sentimental style and crude american ideals, each studio with its own peculiar character. I must admit, I find this angle of analysis, with all the objections one can make for its subjectivity, quite fascinating and given their power to shape things, dead on the mark.Gabler tells the story in the form of serial biographies. It is a wonderful flowing narrative, superlatively written and with a genuine depth of historical understanding. Indeed, while I think this early book is somewhat weaker than his later books, Disney and Life" the Movie, I will read any book that this critic writes.Warmly recommended. This is not my usual domain of interest, so the reading is often hard going for me, but I have learned an immense amount from this critic, who is a real intellectual.

Since eggs have been reprieved from the "do not eat" list (well even before as we didn't buy into the hype anyway) eggs have been a regular part of our diet. But we tend to scramble or hard boil them or break a couple into our hot cereal. But we like eggs & I was looking for a concentrated source of inspiration.Appreciated the nod to vegetarian & paleo recipes in their own chapters but found lots of other great recipes unique to us. Many old standards offered in a healthy interpretation... I scanned through the book looking at every recipe ingredient. I don't recall any prepackaged ingredients. Fresh wholesome ingredients & only a few "fussy" recipes. Most pretty quick & straightforward. Ingredients alone tell me a lot about a cookbook.Many recipes queued ideas for switching up recipes we make already... "hmmm, never thought to use this when we make that!" Looking forward to making a bunch of these!We eat gluten free & even though we mostly just gave up bread & flour tortillas, we've learned to substitute ingredients in our favorite recipes that call for gluten sources or just skip that ingredient altogether. Rather than passing over a recipe calling for bread or pie crust, for example, we know we'll make it crustless & maybe splurge on a loaf of Franz Gluten Free bread. We buy *maybe* 3-4 loaves a year so when we do, I'll scan through and see if I want to use some for a couple of these recipes. We don't buy many special gluten free products. We just focus on food naturally gluten free & splurge once in a while on gf bread or pastries. We find we eat less expensively than ever & this book will further vary our daily diet!

As I’ve always suspected, the big to-do about eggs (especially egg yolks) being really bad for you has been reversed. The latest studies show that eggs have a lot of nutrition and, what’s more, they are a good value, and we love them! This book will certainly help everyone get comfortable with not only preparing recipes that include eggs, but in learning the many different types of eggs, the chickens that produce them, and even how to go about choosing chickens to raise in your own backyard – they have different personalities! I learned what type of chicken produces the eggs I prefer and why there are eggs with double yolks. The recipe section includes the basics for newer cooks such as hard-boiled eggs and omelets, along with many things I’ve always wanted to try to make (mayonnaise) and adventurous dishes I haven’t even heard of before (Portuguese baked eggs). Although I would have made some very minor changes (example, the option of Greek yogurt instead of sour cream in some recipes), I was impressed with the number of great recipes and the tips given along the way. Anyone who eats or uses eggs in recipes should definitely check out this book!

I loved this book!Before reading it, my ability to cook eggs was something like "scrambled."Now, I feel confident trying a variety of cooking methods when using eggs.Another thing that I liked about this book is that it discusses different types of eggs, different materials for cooking eggs, and how to raise chickens who produce healthy eggs. One thing that was interesting was how it talks about the "red spots" in farm fresh eggs. I grew up on a farm and many times, fresh eggs do have little specks of blood in them. This is harmless, but it was nice to see it again in a book as a reminder.I'd recommend this for anyone who wants to learn how to cook fresh eggs but who doesn't have a lot of kitchen confidence like me. You'll get tons of tips, information, and walk away feeling much more sure of yourself in the kitchen.

I have been trying to entice my way from carbs to protein (within reasonable limits) during my pregnancy, and while some foods turned me off right away meat and eggs seem to be by staples for consuming a little more protein and a little less carbs. A girl can only have so many scrambled or hard boiled eggs. This book is really great because it is totally egg focused and comes up with some really creative and amazing recipes. I love that I can jazz up eggs (so easy to use and affordable) and make something new and extra delicious. I've done breakfast for dinner, but a true main dish made with eggs as the primary component, or even desserts based on eggs was beyond what I would normally come up with. If you want to get creative with eggs, this is your book. I still buy the same kind of eggs I usually get in the super market (despite all the explanation about various kinds of eggs), but now I can make easy recipes that result in salads and dressing, quiches, sauces (love this!), snack foods, and more.

A cookbook with no illustrations? This one is one with no pictures. It would be nice to see how a dish looks or what I'm working towards. Really not happy with this book.

Great book I love how much you can make with eggs this book is amazing. I first got this book I wasn't sure how far it would get with me because I'm not a big egg eater. This book has many recipes that calls for eggs. I never thought I'd eat something that called for egg whites only, but with yummy seasoning and other ingredients it's pretty good. What I like about this book and why I bought it is because I love protein and normally I get that from meat. Eating meat all the time wasn't really good for me so my doctor asked me to sometime substitute meat for something else that has protein. This book saved me, and there is recipes in that call for meat to, just not as much as I normally eat which is good thing. The egg recipes really full me up which is another plus that I love. It normally takes meat, literally to make me full. I love eggs!

I am a teacher and my students absolutely love these books! I would give them 5 stars, but they are cheaply made and pages start falling out after only a small amount of use.

Very nice to read! A good source on how the flag was developed!

My student found this book to be most helpful when researching for biographical report. I have many Graphic Library series books in my classroom, and kids love them. They are all AR level 3-5 and cover history, science, and biographies.

Great history lesson about an American that many are forgetting about. Perfect for my 3rd grade class.
