Tilda Balsley tells the Purim story for grades Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Four with impressive efficiency. Its colorful illustrations are delightfully eccentric, and the rhyming text is wickedly clever (e.g., "Bring young ladies sweet and fair, But only when you've fixed their hair, Put perfume here and perfume there, Given them clean underwear, And treated them to free health care."). But the most unique feature of this book is Balsley's choice to print the text in five colors, each assigned to one of the characters, including a narrator. This makes it effortless to transform the story book into a hilarious and cohesive script for a five-character Purimspiel (Purim play). The off-beat diction of "The Queen Who Saved Her People" is endearing to children and adults alike, such as when the King thunders at Haman, "You'll get yours, you crook!", or when Haman's wife orders him to "Build a gallows high", to which Haman responds, "A good idea, my sweetie pie." Embedded within the book's deceptively breezy style lie authentic emotions. This is a cleverly crafted book that truly presents, as Balsley's Esther says, "The whole megillah, what and why."

Using the format of a Purim shpiel (comic dramatization or play), Tlida provides an overview of the biblical story of Esther. The short rhythmic verses flow smoothly while maintaining a comic edge. The text is color coded so that it can be used as a reader’s theater script. The black, green, purple, blue, and red fonts correspond to the narrator, King Ahashuerus, Queen Esther, Mordechai and Haman. This color-coding will also make it easier for an adult to change intonations when reading aloud to children. Some of the dialogue is set off in bubbles and the rest is just part of the text. Ilene’s vibrant illustrations add to the understanding of the printed text.

I bought this book for my nephews but more specifically for my 4 year old nephew who is in a rhyming phase. I love that this book is so clever at the rhyming! I even enjoy reading it. Another fun feature is that each character, including the narrator, has a color, so you can coordinate a play or just have each child read the words of a particular color. This book is very true to story, more than many other kids books out there. There is a page where Haman is building the gallows, so if you find that you wish to keep that from your kids, you may want to reconsider. Otherwise, you could skip the page entirely, as it doesn't show anything at the end of the book. One final note, I love that Haman's hat was drawn to look like a hamantaschen! All in all, my nephews enjoyed this book and I look forward to using it every year leading up to Purim (and other times, too).

Great, fun narrative of purim. Follows the Biblical account pretty well with enough detail that it's not too watered down like most children's Jewish stories.I did have a problem though with the quality of the printing of the book. Perhaps it was that the batch that was printed that I got from the stock when I ordered, but three times I had to send back the book for a new one because the pages had smudged Ink on certain pages and the back cover. It's interesting because all of the copies I got on the same Pages smudged. It was either a printing press issue or perhaps inconsistencies and the illustrators graphics. I liked the story very much but was kind of disappointed with the quality of the printers.

This was great! We had so much fun reading through this and re-enacting the drama as a family! It was told in simple fashion for young children yet held the most significant portions of the story intact. Nice illustrations too! Our grandchildren loved it and we made a fun memory with our costumes as we used this book for our little drama. Highly recommended

I read this instead of Esther...it was awesome! Haman was used plenty of times for the kids to yell and scream and ring the grogers.

What an adorable true story for little girls of today. I love that it teaches being a strong woman for the good is something to aspire to. Hope this little gem of a book gets into a lot of the next generation of girls. Goodness, graciousness, with also sticking up for her and G-d's chosen people!

We used this for a Purim spiel this year. It was so much fun!! All the cast hammed it up real good with props and the "Seuss" style reading was laugh for the audience!

I got this as a Christmas present for my rather profane stepfather. It arrived just on time and is lots of fun to read. The book is smaller than I expected (about the size of a dollar bill, shown in the photo). However, that is not an issue for me; it is now more portable! I spent half an hour looking at all the options, they are hilarious to read, also being informative at times. Whether you're an avid Shakespeare lover or simply someone who swears excessively, this book is great and definitely worth the money.

This is a very interesting little book, as it collects all the colorful insults used in Shakespeare's plays. The book is cleverly constructed so you can selectively flip three different insult categories to form a composite insult in Shakespeare's inimitable style. Many of his colorful insults were used only once in his many plays, so they would be otherwise hard to find. But they are all indexed here for your enjoyment. I admit, the subject of this book is so limited that it will provide only a few minutes of amusement. But it is unique and brings to mind the colorful language of many plays that I have not seen performed for years. So reading a few insults from this book always brings back enjoyable memories of the Bard's plays and makes me smile. That's enough for me. Also, this book rests on a coffee table of my home and announces to one and all that I am a serious follower of the Bard, but still enjoy a laugh at his often creative, outrageous and sometimes memorable quotes.

This is a very funny book. And if you'd like to discourage your teen (or older child) from overusing the unimaginative F-word, perhaps this little tome is just the ticket. I think if teachers were allowed to use it in English class for one or two days while teaching Shakespeare, they might get their students to pay more attention. I can see a lesson dedicated to inventing even more insults worthy of the bard using modern language. Failing in that, the book is good for a few laughs at parties and social gatherings. Just put it out on the coffee table and see what happens.

This book is a gimmick, but it is a cute gimmick. There are a total of 162 words of insult, all taken from Shakespeare's writings (mostly his plays). They are divided into three sets of 54. The top two sets are adjectives and the bottom is nouns. So you can flip through to get a "Goatish Fat-Kidneyed Costermonger" or a "Thrasonical Nook-Shotten Arch-Villain."This last brings up another point. I had heard that Shakespeare had invented words and phrases we find commonplace now, and it turns out that his wordy inventions include insults. "Arch-Villain" was first used in print in a Shakespeare play, so there's a good chance he invented the phrase. As you're flipping through the words, if the back of a word card has a feather, it means that the word first appeared in Shakespeare.The back of each card has a brief definition of what the word meant in Shakespeare's day, that's 1564-1616. These can be useful because I may never have guessed that "Nook-Shotten" meant "full of nooks and angles, confusing and deceptive." Just as important, a word's meaning may have changed. The Elizabethan definition of "Incontinent" is "indulging lust without restraint", a bit of a change.I liked reading the book's introduction as much as anything. It certainly explains why you need this book:"You will discover the brave new invective-inventive world of Shakespeare's scurrility.And a welcome world it is when compared with the single syllable insult exchanges produced by some contemporary playwrights who believe the F-word is a superior insult. The usage of the F-word, however, is more akin to the pre-linguistic banality of dogs barking at one another than it is to any inventiveness of human wordsmithery."Very well put-together in a classy package. The card-stock used for the words is thicker than regular paper, so the cards can better handle flipping them back & forth. And everything is held with a large spiral binding. As I said, a class act as well as being fun.Happy Reader

My 2 nieces, ages 11 and 13, grabbed this book from the gift wrap and spent the whole afternoon insulting each other while learning Shakespeare's barbs at the same time. It was a gift for them after they'd starred in a youth Shakespeare play. This was their favorite gift of the pile!

I recently bought this as a secret santa gift for my roommate because what's better than throwing Shakespeare insults at each other during finals week? As soon as I got the package, I immediately flipped through the pages and sent some of the insults I made to my brother. I almost don't want to give it out as a gift and keep it for myself to make family Christmas parties more interesting. Overall, I think it's a great, funny gift for anybody, children and adults. And for the price, I might end up buying another one for my brothers.

I have to keep it to four stars because of the few words like Bull's Pi... (hint: sounds like something Snoop Dog would say) that my 8-year-old has gravitated towards, but it's a load of fun for making more of a joke of insults at home rather than resorting to the repetitive cruel ones that spring up like "fat" or "stupid". Yes, of course we're trying to raise them right, but they'll always have words to say in frustration, and it's better to be focused on creativity and intelligence--which quickly dissipates a lot of the anger or disappointment anyhow--over ignorant harsh words. Needless to say, this book follows many of us around the house :-)

This is a hilarious book! I took it was a white elephant gift to a family party this Christmas and everyone was fighting over it and yelling Shakespearean insults at those who "took" it from them during the game play. It's tons of fun!

About the Author

Kazuo Koike is a prolific Japanese manga writer, novelist and entrepreneur. Early in Koike's career, he studied under Golgo 13 creator Takao Saito and served as a writer on the series. Koike, along with artist Goseki Kojima, made the manga, Lone Wolf and Cub, and Koike also contributed to the scripts for the 1970s film adaptations of the series, which starred famous Japanese actor Tomisaburo Wakayama. Koike and Kojima became known as the "Golden Duo" because of the success of Lone Wolf and Cub. Another series written by Koike, Crying Freeman, which was illustrated by Ryoichi Ikegami, was adapted into a 1995 live-action film by French director Christophe Gans. The author lives in Tokyo, Japan.

My decision this fall to start reading the manga epic Lone Wolf & Cub, one episode a night before going to bed, appears to be a masterstroke of timing since the 28th and final volume of the series was due out this week. Volume 21, "Fragrance of Death" continues the novel-within-the-novel that began with the previous volume, "A Taste of Poison." The Shogun, tired of the pathetic attempts of Retsudo Yagyu and his retainers to kill Ogami Itto allows the head of the Yagyu clan to use the services of Abe-no-Kaii, the head of the Kuchiyaku, the "official mouths" of the Shougn who taste his food for poisons. Abe-no-Kaii is a master of poisons, but by this point in the story he has failed several times to kill his prime target, Daigoro, or the boy's father. But the attempts continue in his own quest to control the power of the Shogunate in the five stories collected in this volume:(103) "Poison Currents" is the story that will convince you once and for all that Ogami Itto really is a demon; or, at least, is beyond being a mere human. Abe-no-Kaii actually poisons himself to help set the trap that finally succeeds in rending Ogami Itto helpless. Or does it?(104) "Flood of Fire" finds the desperate master poisoner making an attempt on the life of Retsudo Yagyu and risking everything he had done on this desperate ploy.(105) "Fire, Water and Poison" tells of Abe-no-Kaii fleeing the wrath of the Yagyu clan, but still trying to come up with a plan to save his life by being the one to kill Ogami Itto.(106) "Fragrance of Death" finally answers the question as to what Ogami Itto did with all the gold he has been receiving for the many assassinations he has accomplished along the Assassin's Road. But at the same time, father and son require the cutting of some habutae, the unbleached white silk funeral clothes of Japanese tradition. Along with the recovery of his gold, this can only portend that we are coming to another significant moment in this epic quest for vengeance and restored honor.(107) "Kaii's Lullaby" tells of Abe-no-Kaii's final gambit to poision Lone Wolf and Cub, as well as the story of how he came to be the master taster for the Shogun. It is not surprising that Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima are able to invest even a wretched monster like Abe-no-Kaii with some small aspect of sympathy. Of course, this all just ups the ante for the payoff in what may well prove to be the last major skirmish before the final battle is joined.The ebb and flow of this story has been most impressive, especially since it is not until these recent volumes that Koike and Kojima have ketp such a tight narrative focus for so long. But clearly things have changed significantly now that Ogami Itto and Daigoro have entered Edo. The only problem is, I do not think I want this story to end.

I've fallen out of reading manga as I've gotten older, I just can't get into series like I could from years back. However this series I'm in it to the end. And Vagabond LOL. I just enjoy seeing the wisdom and internal strength that Ogami Itto displays rather than be a fight first type of character. There is a deep strength within this character and innocence within his child that I want to see how this story plays out. So I will continue to read this story till the end as I find it to be very well written and drawn.

Moving towards a final climactic showdown with the Yagyu. But Lone Wolf has to deal with a master of poisons first.

A must read for those interested in the intersection of science and the Eastern Wisdom tradition of Buddhism.

This book does not focus on religious beliefs, but does show how religion can view and use meditation techniques to improve their teaching and belief structure. Mostly it encompasses the scientific findings and continuing research which has brought about amazing results that solidify the benefits of meditation, and show the value in continued research and practice. This book is a validation in scientific terms of meditation as a medical treatment.

I have had the pleasure of hearing live, both Jon Kabat-Zinn and Richard Davidson, so was very interested in this work. As I work my way through the book, it is like "being there" and listening to this very powerful dialogue. I find myself re-reading pages, and then turning back to the index, and looking for links and connections that add to my understanding. This is going to be on my must read list for individuals in my meditation and mindfulness experiences from cancer survivors to employees. Enjoy and grow!

While I found it desirable to reread some material, I gained a better understanding as a result. It is a very helpful book that expands the applications of Buddhist philosophy in everyday life.

Mental training/ mind training should be a required activity in schools and this method seemscreditable to me. Those of us in the western tradition are far too "external" in our way of thinking andliving. It's no wonder we have so many physical and mental problems.

I believe in the power of our mind. Healing is an essential part of that in so many ways. Not only in a physical realm, but in a deeper mental state. This book is nothing we haven't heard in our lives, but reminds us that it is up to us to make the changes and anything is possible if we believe in ourselves. We start within us and it will start to extend like tendrils to other. Namaste.

This study guide was decent, but some of the answers are incorrect. It only included half of the solutions, which were not very well analyzed. I was helpful when I was taking the class, but it could be better.

There was very little writing in it, so I was very pleased with the result. It helped a lot with understanding the materials since it offered a step by step explanation and descripiton most of the time. Definitely a good guide to use for assistance in problems, especially because of the explaining in the manual.The shipping was also done in a timely manner, so it was great for me since I didn't know there was a solutions manual and no answers to the problems in the back of the actual book and it was in the middle of the semester I realized I really needed it.

This was a great solutions manual to accompany my Organic Chemistry book. Unlike other books, the textbook did not have the odd answers in the back, so the solutions manual was necessary. There were also helpful study guides with consolidated information from the chapter.

I loved it

This is a great manual. It irks me that they charge you another $100+ just to get the answers to questions you've already paid for. However, this guide does a good job of explaining answers, which is a HUGE help, and something many other guides gloss over.

It is the study guide and solutions manual to the organic chemistry book we are using. It is easy to use with very few mistakes. It was an excellent purchase.

Consider it a basic outline for all the factors you're going to have to consider when starting your business. You won't find all the answers you need here, but this book will get you pointed in the right direction. As far as I can tell, the information is very up-to-date, which I imagine is a big challenge for a printed book about operating on the web.Many of the most popular books about online business creation are more inspirational. This book is practical. I think a good mix of the two is in order. So if you're looking for a practical guide, this is a nice option to consider.My only (minor) complaint is the silly "11 books in 1" tagline. No, it's not 11 books. It's one book with 11 sections. Just because the editors didn't bother to tie all the 11 sections in together, doesn't mean you get 11 books. But that's ok. I didn't want 11 books (who would?).

This book has definitely helped me start building my company. It has all the basics to hep you build your company, market it, and help with the build of your website. I found my website builder didn't offer much, especially when it comes to putting policies on the site, and this book helped me make great suggestions for other future companies using their website building platform.

I got this book for a college class, and it was pretty intimidating at first with its 800+ pages.But it's a really really good book on the subject and worth the read!!Part of it are a little dry, but most of the sections are kept brief and to the point, so even if you're not overly enjoying the topic, you're getting what you need to know from it, and it's information that will help your business that you might not have considered otherwise.The sections are nicely split up so that, although as a previous reviewer mentions, it's not 11 books in one, you can still kind of pretend it is, and tackle the pages by subject area. That way you can concentrate on learning one thing at the time and don't feel you have to rush through 800 pages, but instead can split it into chunks of around 200 pages at a time while still getting complete information.Really surprised by this book, considering it's in the for Dummies series, and only costs around 30. Well worth it if you're considering starting an online business, or an offline business with online aspects, such as a website or an online store.I borrowed a digital version of this book initially, but found it hard to follow or jump to sections that way. I much preferred the big heavy print version, maybe also because it fed my ego looking at how many pages I'd gotten through as I worked through the course and book.

I am still reading the book. Data is extremely helpful especially in the area of legal requirements for a business. Thank you to the authors for assembling this work as it makes it much easier to create a plan on creating my own business.

I don't like to post a review until I've finished a book but this one is obviously the one a person needs to get started in an e-business.
